    Default Left Handed Circular Saw

With over 10% of the population being left handed, how do you all feel about bringing out a left handed circ saw?
The safety benefits would be enhanced as the user would feel more comfortable holding and using the saw?
Looking for some thoughts on this.

Makita used to make one, but I'm not sure if they still do.

With 75% of this household being lefties, I would be interested in lotsa left handed things, not for me as such, cause I'm well adapted, but for all the others who haven't been able to (SWMBO is such a leftie its almost scary, like all the right handers can't do a bleedin' thing with the other hand, useless the whole mob of 'em, I tells ya)

I'm sure there will be some interest, but it will never realise large sales- 90% of the population won't want it!

On the other hand, if it is the only LH saw on the market, perhaps it will be very popular!!

I'd suggest bringing out 2 models at the same time - a budget level $40 one, and a high quality (platinum) version. Advertising will be the thing that makes it successful. Just my 2 c worth

Yes would only be to complete a "story" within the brand, would never get volume but recogntion of innovation and being about having a full range and thinking outside of the square.

Would only bring one out, would probably retail for $99.

If its only 10% of the population that are lefties, how many of that are woodworkers, not many I should think.

Last time I looked there were about 10000 members on this forum. 10% of that is 1000 woodworkers, so that's 1000 saws for a start.

yep like those ones Ian except for a quarter of their price and a 2 year full replacement warranty rather than a 12 month repair warranty.

Minus the ones who register and never post because they only came for 1 answer about termites or damp or what ever.

    Minus, turners, scrollers etc..

It would be a good PR excercise for GMC anyway whether they sell any or not.

I agree about the PR aspect of it, again, gets back to my comment about advertising- no point doing it if you don't publicise the fact that you are prepared to cater to minorities (as I am positive GMC have already thought of, otherwise why do it).

    Question Why bother????

Wow!!! I'm a left hander, maybe someone could make a left handed panel saw, dovetail saw, and some LH chisels. (C'mon, It's a joke, not sarcasim!)
Seriously though, as a left hander I have never felt disadvantaged with a RH circular saw, I spent most of today "ripping" posts for landscaping the front yard using my cheapie black and decker circular saw and at no time did I feel disadvantaged or uncomfortable, my point is that even though 10% of woodworkers may be left handed, some won't care, others are not disadvantaged and some already have a saw so they won't want to buy another. The research and development are better spent creating products that last longer, are reliable, have improved safety features and are still value for money for everyone to use.
Sorry to spoil the party but such a "minority" product will never fly!
