Fender P-Bass plans / info
Hi,
OK, about ready to take the plunge and get this instrument-building addiction started.
Been debating bass vs guitar (can't play either [yet] and both have merits) but have gone back to the original plan to build a bass (or probaly basses, then a guitar or two or three...I know how it goes ).
To keep things simple initially (I'd like a violin base or something fancy later ), I'm going to do a solid-body, 'standard' bass first.
So, I hope to build something that looks and sounds like a Fender Precision Bass. Go for the classic, plus it's used by bassists I admire (and in the songs I'll try to learn ).
And finally to the question - any links, hints or tips on plans for a P-bass or what hardware I should be after?
Thanks in advance,
Darren

Hey Tim,
Interesting that all your favourite bassists play P basses...mine all play Fender Jazzes (theres Jaco Pastorious and Marcus Miller for a start and then there's Tal Walkenfeld).
Scott Antes has a variety of guitar plans for sale indlucing an excellent set of plans for a P bass. Theyre not free but quality of the plans is very high and well worth paying for. Scott responds promptly to emails and quality of service is good.

Hi Martin,
Thanks for the link, the site looks great.
I tend to be into punk and post-punk music (yes, yes, using the term 'music' very loosley ) so the bassists I relate to started off with or played p-basses or copies. I'm sure there's much better options but it's a classic. But, as mentioned I like violin basses like McCartney's, etc. And I guess when I have a p-bass and get more into playing, I'll try different types and sounds.
Regards,
Darren

Ditto to FlightySwine's posting....that black bass looks cool. One of yours?
And the violin bass is nice. I do like the Hofner like McCartney's...that would be fun to build. And it's left-handed

Darren

i missed those last posts...
considering where i too that picture from... i thin that particullar builder would get very angry if that design was used...
then again, every builder gets angry when their designs are flogged... lol...
its nothing totally different though.... its just a violin bass with the lower horn cut down for fret access.... its mainly the neck to body joint that defines it...
also the bridge design and headstock and pickup.. lol
headstock is pretty ordinary...
