    Default Calibrating my domino

How reliable is the viewing window of your domino?

Today I gave it a test.
    1. Marked 2 boards with a pencil
    2. Set the width of the dowel hole on the domino to be the same as the width of the dowel (without play)
    3. Aligned the centre line on the viewing window to the pencil line on the board
    4. Cut the dowel holes
    5. Joined the boards together

Result: the pencil mark on the boards did not match.

Reason: The viewing window is not centre with the dowel hole.

To fix it, I unscrewed the viewing window and adjusted it slightly to the right. I had to try 3 times before I got a perfect match.

    Have you tested it yet?

I must be luck, all my gear has always come up trumps out of the box, Domino included - but even so, I might have a prod and poke before I get into the point of no return on my current project.

No harm in double checking things.

What the Dominatrix was not perfect out of the box? What will this do to Fesfool's plans of world domination

Pat, it isn't a major problem and it is vey easy to fix. But I do agree with you. Their stardard should be higher than others and they could have done better.

Had to do the same with mine, Wongo. It was off about a half mm to the right.

So far at least, that's the only calibration or set up I had to do. Compare that to my bandsaw, or tablesaw ....

Is this a 'method' adjustment perhaps? I usually look at a scale slightly from the left for some reason, and allow the lines to touch right to left, rather than overlay, to get it right.

Thats what I love about the Domino and other festool tools, is the option to calibrate/adjust things so they work accurately.

Other cheaper tools usually dont have that option and your stuck with what you got.

This is a common adjustment for new Domino machines. Many are spot on but sometimes they need a tweak. Lots of discussion about this in another place. Don't get excited Scott.

I used get a small parallax error until I started using the little guide hole, so now the only time it doesn't line up is when the workpiece is not properly secured.
