AA Batteries.

Hi all.
As we all know AA Batteries are reasonably expensive.
Received an Email from a friend.
It states, if you buy a large 6Volt Dolphin Torch, Battery, pull it apart, there are 32 AA Batteries inside.
At a guess I would think $6 would be about the cost of this Battery?.

your mate is right, also at work once i threw a automatic greaser against the wall when the bearing burnt out and it too was full off AA batteries tapped together but, in the case of buying an auto greaser for the batteries, i would imaging just buying the AAs of the shelf would be cheaper.

No, that is what the Email I received was all about.
They were saying it was Cheaper to buy the Torch Battery, because it was a lot Cheaper.
Actually I was going to look it up, but I forget.

It does look a little iffy in the video where he pulls the top off the battery and then just snips the one wire and magically all of the AA batteries just fall out. I would have thought they would need to be wired to both the positive and negative ends, and then either in series or parallel.

I thought that they came out a bit too easy. I'm still going to try it though, as I was about to buy some at DSE.
Then I'm told Super Cheap have very good AA's & reasonably Cheap as well.
One of those 6V batteries, I found was $2.19, & I thought that was a bit to cheap. So we will see what happens.

Yep I finally found an old battery and when it was cracked open just the four cells.

Instead of going down this doubtful route, why not just buy the 30 pack of Varta Alkaline batteries from the big green shed. Cost is around $9.
Interestingly I tried to buy a pack of 4 of these same Varta Alkalines for my camera on Santorini back in June - they wanted 12 Euro!!!!!!!:o
I went without.

I've been using a couple of those Varta batteries in my digital camera and they have been holding up quite well. They are made by a reputable company can't remember the name.

I have always found Globe to have excellent prices.

I buy lots of rechargable AA cells, CR123 cells and LR44 cells. Globe are always the cheapest.

What a load of carp...dolphin batteries are made up from 4 x F cells, an F cell is like 1 and a half D cells...same diameter and half as long again

As far as Varta...Varta is one of the top 5 battery manufacturers world wide, they are just not big in the australian market...I was a varta reseller about 15 years ago.

The rip off is the union carbide/mallory (eveready / duracel) effecive retail duopoply on this county.......serioulsy don't get me started on this one.

But now that there are plenty of people paralell importing batteries, if you look arround you can get good AA alkaline batteries at reasonable prices.

One of my suppliers was getting US branded duracel, and could sell to me way below any price mere mortals could get on australian sourced duracel.

The fact remains unless you are buying supermarket chain volumes you can not get a fair wholesale price on duracel or energiser in Australia.

Check out Aldi, Ikea, Altronics.....all 3 have respecable AA alkaline batteries in large packs at decent prices.

I had seen this myth as well. A hoax video floating on Facebook. Where I work we have store brand batteries. They are made by Energizer and cost about 35% less. So that is what I buy. We have a 36pk of AA's for $9.99

I have a Rezap battery charger. It does a reasonably good job of recharging standard alkalines. Some won't charge, and some don't hold their charge well afterwards, but a surprising amount will recharge OK, especially if you don't let them get too flat first.
