Hickory 7th July 2008, 12:15 PM It has been a long hard winter's project (with several delays) but I have completed all that I was suppose to do to the Model T Towncar. Ms Betty was named after the owner's grandmother who was born the same time 1912...

She looks pretty good sized next to Ma's Miata but she is a cramped vehicle... 6 passenger??? I think not. Good sized seatin the rear plus 2 jumpseats for the kids and the driver faces the elements. Next to my Big White Beast, she don't look too tall.

Bunch of details had to be worked out and the molding was a real chore. Not to mention the roof....

But those doors (the fore doors) were my nemesis, they drove me out of my mind. Convex curves in both axis and mounting them at an angle on a slanted floor against a perpendicular firewall tilted in at 2 degree angle... Any slight angle off sent the latch side off in some strange direction and created a headache every day.
I'll impart more details later and tomorrow there will be delivery of the body to the chasis, Will picture post later as it is the owners responsibility to finish this work. I'm done (until he call for help)

jmk89 7th July 2008, 12:47 PM Great job there, hickory. As an owner of two old girls (whose combined age is only 73 compared to Betty's 96) it is great to see that there are people doing these sort of restorations (really a reconstruction).
Gra - the Dad of the guy who does my auto paint work on the old girls does a lot of automotive woodwork as well as panel fabrication. He's an old-fashioned craftsman and usually has a couple of full restoration/rebuilds on the go - for example, when I did the full resoration of the P504 in my avatar, the near-side door skin was just rust and bog and was unobtainable, even in France. So he bent up a new one. When I mention that one of the door skins is a replacement made from sheet metal, people try to work out which one - and they almost always choose the driver's side because it doesn't fit as well!!!. There is a company down here in Mitcham that does a lot of work for the Sports car club (Bentley, Vauxhall, Alvis, Riley etc not MG, triumph) and if I won tatts, they would be building my next body. Their work is out of this world.
Most of the body work is done on the current project (Just need to spay on some paint and make it flat, easy:no::no:)
I know where there is a nice chassis that a body like that would go on. 137In Wheelbase and an 8 Cylinder engine... Hmmmm Pity I could never get he guy to sell

I think at heart your a boatie mate... no seriously!!... a wee outboard at the back in its own wee hidden housing and she would be wonderous cruisin in the early evening on some hidden river or creek system just paddleducking along a nice glass of fine red some wonderfull sweetmeats and watching the world go by... man it would be soooo good :2tsup:
