Only in America
Thinking about making a coffee table so was looking around youtube for a basic design I could use as a starting point. Some surprises out there.

OMG! The table is as asthetically pleasing as the contents.

They actually go in for concealment furniture in a big way. You can buy it ready made on Amazon and other places.

More like Ikea (TM) on nitrocellulose and gun oil.
I see a major problem with the table though. Where's the merican gonna put the other 7 assault rifles and 15 handguns. And the 50cal is gonna need a much bigger table... Ya know, ya got to be ready, y'all, just in case russia tries to invade. Oh, I forgot, conservative america loves putin. He affectionately refers to them as his useful idiots... I guess they'll have to get ready for Canada to invade...

This may come as a surprise to some but being robbed at gun point is not a pleasant experience. I know, Ive been there. Particularly frustrating when you know the nut behind the butt would not be in such a dominant position without his bit of hardware. Unfortunately, gun laws have not made that happen. All they have achieved is to disarm the responsible and create a fear of firearms.
Just another tool to me and a bloody handy one.

Truly sorry to hear of your experience. I am also sorry if this post has upset anyone as I only saw the lighthearted side of the issue. I was a shooter and held UK gun licence so am not gun adverse but find the American gun cult a wee bit strange. Funny how they have one extreme and we have another. Neither side are right and politicians in both countries make mileage out of it. On the whole however I would say our system is a bit safer.

A "bit safer" doesnt count for a bag of beans when you have a drug crazed idiot holding a loaded 45 against the back of your head. One tends to find little comfort in knowing how much better off we are here than over there.

A bit? More like A LOT. On the two occasions I've been an unwilling participant in an armed robbery, once with a sawn off shot gun and the other a pistol, there would have been a very high possibility of someone getting shot and suffering a serious injury or death if the perpetrator/s was confronted with an armed response. Some people watch too many American shoot-em-up shows where only the 'baddies' get shot.
Rusty, despite your experience you can't seriously think that Americas gun laws are a better system than ours?

Aldav, To answer your question; I am very much of the opinion that we are kidding ourselves if we think this becomes a matter of determining who's laws are better than the other. In the case of the USA, what laws? In Australia, what is the effect? When push comes to shove you will be at risk in either location. Fair to say probably more so in the US as there is more chance of "shove," being a larger population with more guns. What concerns me most is the naivety of the general population here in thinking our laws have had the required effect on the criminal element. It hasn't. There is nothing worse than a false sense of security. It can be fatal. My Dad was a cop, I was a bouncer, we both saw it all. Both before gun laws and after the introduction. What difference did it make? Very little to be honest. People are still shot with monotonous regularity. But at least we have the laws to say thats naughty. But then again, so does America. Do I feel safer? Not in the slightest. When you hear that click, you know all bets are off.

In Australia a large proportion of gun violence is deads***s shooting other deads***s. More guns lead to more deaths and injuries and too many times it's the innocent party who ends up damaged. You'll never stop determined deads***s getting guns, but that's no sensible reason to make them readily available. Don't get the idea that it's only the people who sustain physical injuries who suffer. The psychological effects I've seen on some people are extremely debilitating. I don't want guns to be easily available to domestic violence perpetrators, vengeful people with a grudge or any of the 'one punch wonders' that we regularly see in the news. Why any civilised society would allow the general populace to purchase weapons that have been designed for a single purpose, to kill people, is totally beyond me. Americans amaze me with their stupidity - no, that's unfair, they're not all stupid, but there is enough of them to elect Donald Trump. Maybe twice.
"Probably more so in the US", look at their deaths from guns - probably? DEFINITELY! All you have to do is go to school.
There's no point talking to people who think Australia would be a safer place if we had more guns, so I won't be posting anything further in an effort to change the minds of those who hold contrary views.
