What’s on the Bench.
What’s on the bench
Not sure if it’s just me or just my observation but the forum seems a little quiet lately,so I thought why not let’s have what’s on your bench on Saturday afternoon.(Dosent have to be really a Saturday afternoon maybe it’s a Tuesday morning!!)
So I’ll get a starter.
My bench at the moment ,i have a shooting board that I’ve been making, my small surface granite plate that I’m checking my number 5 1/2 Stanley bench plane, that’s in for a restoration to end up on the shooting board. All comments ,feedback and small slight criticism not too harsh all welcome.
Cheers Matt.
Maybe I had a small tiny clean up before pics!!!!

On mine is still my daughter's jewellery/ display box.
The first drawer is done except for the drawer front. 2nd drawer gets sanded up today/ tomorrow for assembly.
still a bit too go before finished but chugging along.
Have to think soon what wood to use for the drawer fronts and the top panel of the box. I was thinking a light figured wood but does anyone have any suggestions?

Taz.
That looks pretty good, plus a clean workbench??
I think some nice Huon pine would spiffy for draw fronts.
Cheers Matt

A rare moment that its clean but it's good i caught it on camera!
One advantage of a Moravian bench is that as its meant to be taken to pieces for transportation (or in my case for converting a shed back into a garage).
Huon pine sound interesting, I'll keep my eyes open for small prices for sale on the forum.

Blackwood, I’ve been machining it up for the top of a 6-8 seat dining table, I’ll do the base after the top, I’m thinking it will be a japanese style trestle. There is variation in width and colour so I’ll spend some time laying out the pieces before gluing it up

I pulled out this Bedrock 606 and gave it an all over service this morning. Its been gathering dust for too long . Ground the blade straight with a curve out at each side and finish honed it on my Black Arkansas , A trash and treasure find from a long time ago . An 8000 grit natural oil stone . Tried the ruler Trick for the first time . Nice trick Matt and worked well . After cutting 8 tapered legs out on the table saw they got cleaned up between the bench dogs with the 606. A pair of walnut bed side tables on the way.

Mine is similar to Austin's at the moment with the Blackwood that I purchased from Sapherion a little while ago sorted into the various pieces to be machined and joined for an entertainment/display unit. Busy with a garden project at the moment.

Must not break the rules so here are photos and have smacked my fingers as punishment. You will see that it is very similar to Austin's. 20200216_095423.jpg20200216_094525.jpg
A picture of the proposed project is included. I downloaded it from the Forum a fair while agoTom

Good thread!
Nothng special here. I am repairing and refitting my front vice, and also looking at improving my shed lighting by replacing fluoros with LED tubes. Who would have know that there are mechanical ballasts versus electronic ballasts? (Yes, I bought the wrong replacement tube)
