New Covid Checkin App
Just spent 1 and 3/4 hours sorting this new App out. This one has just been released here in WA (ServiceWA) and does the, QR code checkin linked to Vax certificate and G2G pass.
I downloaded the old QR code checkin about 6 months ago and it was dead easy, but for this new one, to get the Vax Cert also requires a MyGovID account and links backwards and forwards between it and medicare YADDA YADDA. One or other crashed multiple times during teh process - all they could say was try again.
I tried to leave a comment about how crap and complicated teh whole process was but you can only provide feedback from a limited list of their choosing.
Crickey - I can imagine a sizeable fraction of the population over 50 being messed about by this.

Yep, the NSW version requires Mediscare to talk to it. Someone had signed up to Medicare about 20 years ago and forgot the contact details. Luckily, a 10 minute phone call sorted out that issue.

As a tech savvy user, when I was setting the app up I straight away though about all of the people who are not very proficient with technology as the process is so convoluted.
Nationally, the Vax cert is linked to Medicare so all of the state apps will need to access it. At least it's relatively secure way.

I found the process was not in anyway logical, I did not have any experience with government apps or online accounts. The help items on the government websites made no sense so I googled and found a simple one paragraph list of instructions on the abc website.

If it’s anything like the QLD app the certificate doesn’t get updated when you receive booster shots. My original cert was dated back in August last year; having received a booster shot I then had to remove the certificate and go through the whole shebang again to attach the new one with the amended date.
I must admit that although attaching the original cert was definitely non-intuitive and I needed to follow specific instructions; repeating the process a couple of months later was actually easy and didn’t need Google’s assistance at any stage. I guess by making it a rather idiosyncratic convoluted method it sort of makes it stick in your mind…Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.

With Qld app you have to unlink the certificate and then go through the process of relining it
