Hammer c3 31 maintenance
Recently collecting a hammer combo and bandsaw package into my workshop I’ve started to go over it and give it some general tlc maintenance. Found a few minor parts to replace like the internal dust flexi pipe from the blade housing to the rear 120mm connection and the hand wheels. Anyway as the machine has the comfort package installed I’ve assembled the outrigger and cross cut fence etc and have noticed the sliding table is on the louder side of things and doesn’t side freely if I give it a good push.
I’ve owned a c3 31 previously but without the comfort package and the sliding table slid very freely and would continue without me pushing if I put enough into it.
It seems to me the outrigger attachment overall has a little play up and down on it and is making me consider the sliding table may have lateral pressure applied to it which is causing restriction of some form preventing it sliding freely.
Has anyone come across this and am I thinking along the right path here or is there something else that can occur with a sliding table?
The carriage arm underneath moves freely and doesn’t seem to be causing any binding so I suspect it’s to do with the play in the carriage piece (I think I have the terminology right)
Whilst I’ve read some Felder sliders are maintenance free I assume I don’t have one like that and it may require tlc as well so thought I’d reach out to the brains trust to see where to form here, will also reach out to hammer and Felder in Sydney also
Apologies if my description is off, I’ll include some photos tomorrow
Cheers

Nathan, remove the outrigger entirely and see what happens, if that frees it up look at the sliding arm that supports the outrigger as the internal wheels can cause issues. Before you remove the outrigger make sure it is level with the slider as this is can also be a problem.

The 120mm hose is harder to find. Here is where I got mine from for my euro combo: Wood and Paper (Anti-static) Hose – Eximo speedLOCK
Fast and friendly service.

Thanks Mark I’ll check them out I will need to get some more possibly once I’ve sorted through my other dusty equipment I’ll need to sell
Chris I’ve sprayed the rollers within the table with some Inox and it has improved the sliding significantly so far. Will re assemble the outrigger and see how it goes and get back to you.
Cheers

The internal hose is 100mm. Felder pulled a swifty, the plastic port is 125mm on the outside and 100mm internally and the story goes that the internal hose is biodegradable but I don't know if that is true or not. One thing you will find is that changing it is a truly frustrating & difficult job because the under blade guard is difficult to get out and re- install and the connection on the guard is the worst piece of design you can imagine. I imported some 125mm hose when I was selling Clearvues and have never regretted doing it.

Haha I’ve had experience with this metal rectangle clip around the base of the blade housing as somehow the existing hose had deteriorated it was a right pita to get off!! But yes did notice the internal diameter was smaller of the plastic housing. Luckily I have both 100 and 120 hose long enough to fit it so shouldn’t be an issue to replace
Have quoted up some accessories like the mm digits read out wheels for both the thicknesser and the saw blade angle tilt and a few other things.
Will attempt to put the slider back together tonight to see how it slides
Cheers

The in handle gauge is a must, extremely accurate and it doesn't use batteries! I have worked out how to put a DRO on the outrigger cross cut fence without modifying anything if you are interested. I have installed a DRO on my rip fence but you must have the fine adjustable rip fence head to do that.

Hammer c3 31 maintenance
The adjustment and measurement on the c3 31 rip fence could use improvement. It’s not the worst I’ve ever used but compared to an incra or even perhaps other more recent saws from hammer it’s pretty average.
I’ll take a look for the dro once I’ve got it set back up and do some test cuts

Nathan,
I love Inox but not on dust producing machinery where friction is an issue. The best thing I have found for sliding tables and sliding fences is graphite powder. It doesn't hold dust and slides like a dream.

The bearing cages the sliding table moves can move out of position and actually limit the table travel. I have seen something mentioned about this recently but I can't recall where. Around about 3 minutes into this video Marius removes the table from his saw and goes on to show the bearing carriage.

Might have been me - there's a post somewhere. My K3 was second hand and the slider kept sticking. I pulled the sliding bits apart, cleaned and re-assembled all the ball bits, and it's working perfectly.
The hammers don't get the x-roll system, so they're not maintenance-free.
EDIT: post #14 here - Hammer K3 Owners: Slide Travel

Thanks Brendan this is what I’m doing currently to help fitting it again.
Sorting some graphite powder for the slider also, it’s sliding much better at the moment even with the initial lubrication.
Organising some accessories from Felder for this combo as well should be setup nicely soon
I have an AF12 that came with the unit but they don’t seem to make pleated filters for this unit so I’d have to upgrade it, I have a carbatec 2hp with a pleated filter. Unsure which one I should keep at the moment or just move both on to get an appropriately sized unit

Added some accessories today to help with reading display of blade tilt angle and thicknesser height wheel. Positive stop for the slider and few other things on back order like eccentric clamp and cleaning kit etc
I think this hard bound catalogue is going to be dangerous!
Will be cleaning up the helical head cutter blades and spindle as there’s some scratches on there and blades needed a thorough cleaning.
General clean up of the cast iron tops and will reinstall dust collection pipes within the cabinet next
Cheers
