Frame & Panel Night Stand assistance required please
Hi Everyone
Ive been building this Night Stand for mu Granddaughter and taking progress photos along the way with the intention of posting here on the forum.
I am nearly finished but I made a huge Blunder on the Door.
I installed knife Hinges then I put the opening door knob on the wrong side of door.
This meant I now have the original hole on the bottom of the door which I tried to fill with a horrible result.
Any ideas what I can do to fix. Inlay??
Thank you

Remove and replace the problem stretcher. There is no fix for this - it will remain an obvious repair, and haunt you for the rest of time.

The first easy option would be to take off the knob and run the door through the table saw taking 2 or 3 mm off that damaged Stile face .
Then plane and Re fit/ glue in a new face and re polish . Otherwise dis assemble and re do the whole Stile.

Nightstand
Thank you Derek and Austcab for the ideas.
I am now going to think of which one is my best approach.
I will post pics when completed.

You could remove the knob and place a length of timber between the two locations crafted into a nice handle.

A patch is going to be very hard to hide, particularly in blonde timber. I woud be more inclined to remove the existing knob and fashion a long dowel type handle with two short offsets scribed and glued to the back of the upright with apoxy. Probably easiest to fit the offsets into the door holes first using the length of handle to align the scribes and then glue the length of handle into the scribes while the door is laying flat on the bench. Handle should be longer than the spacing of the holes by about the thickness of the handle material or longer if you wish for a pleasing look.

Thank you Rusty Nail. A Great idea as well!. I decided to remove 2mm of material and replace it as previously suggested. In fact I have just finished the glue up and cleaned it up and put shellack on it. I have also turned up another knob and will replace tomorrow. With a bit of luck I will post before and after pics tomorrow.
Thank you

Update on Door fix
I ended up removing 2 mm off the face of the style after cutting off the door knob. I then glued a new piece in place turned up a new door knob and attached door knob. Im pretty happy with the way it turned out and have learnt another lesson to be more attentive in the future.
Thank you everyone for your assistance.
Cheers

You are a bit slow, Woodie; I made that mistake at least 30 years ago. It was on a small Shaker style hanging cabinet. Not only was the knob on the wrong side, it was near the top rather than the bottom. I consulted the whiskey bottle.
I was so exasperated with myself that I almost binned the project.
It sat there for at least a month. Eventually I decided to make it a feature - the original knob was damaged when I removed it so I made four identical knobs from the same timber as the door, slightly larger than the original, and put one on each side of the door - top and bottom. People liked the symmetry and commented that the cabinet was suspended.

Ha Ha Graeme. Yes I am definitely a bit slow. I could not believe what I had done and I can tell you a bottle of Red disappeared that night. Well yours ended up good by the sounds of it. Ive been retired 6 years and finally finding a bit more time and trying to catch up on my passion of Woodworking.
